More About Our Roles and Responsibilities

The Agency’s Research Division (RS) focuses on key research and preservation areas that accomplish integral parts of the AFHRA mission.  The Research Division responds to official and unofficial requests for historical information and provides field support to DAFHMP personnel, supports visiting patrons, fulfills duplication orders for historic materials within the collection, safeguards and preserves collection materials, posts approved data and historic materials on AFHRA’s websites, oversees the Research, Stacks, and Circulation Teams, and manages the Privacy/Civil Liberties Program.

The Accessions Division (AFHRA/AC) oversees the addition of incoming material to the AFHRA’s collection, creates metadata for the digital asset management system (DAMS), creates microform records, migrates various forms of media, and digitizes analog records. Due to the volume of offers that occur each day, we cannot accept unsolicited material dropped off at the Agency. Potential donors are encouraged to contact the archive with details about the items they wish to donate. The Accessions Division personnel then assesses the item’s relevance and condition. If the item is accepted, the donor and the archive agree on the terms of the donation, and the accessioning process begins. Donations can only be dropped off at the Agency after written coordination/confirmation with the Accession Chief or Document Control Team.
