Flexible gunnery training
Typical of the soldiers volunteering to become aerial gunners is Pvt. Alfred C. Edwards of Richmond, Va.. The actual target firing by Pvt. Edwards is done over the rim of the southernmost tip of Texas. His bullets, both those that hit the target and those that miss, drop harmlessly into the Gulf of Mexico or the many-colored and mirrored waters of Laguna Madre. When his final target flight is over he comes down and the score is tabulated. He is a qualified gunner. Automatically, he becomes a sergeant and receives the coveted gunner's wings. The next step is a place in a combat team on a bomber. He is ready!
