Airplane mechanic training
Islands of airplane engines surrounded by information seeking student mechanics fill the vast hangar at Randolph Field which forms the demonstration hall and classroom for the mechanics classes. This particular phase of the students' work is known as the engine construction unit, work being done on actual motors from training type planes as well as demonstration models. In the background students swarm in, under, and on top of a plane which has had a part of its fuselage cut away for demonstration purposes. Motors inspected and assembled range from 450 horse-power training engines to the latest 1,000 and 1,200 horse power motors. It's all a part of the vast educational system for pilots and mechanics in the Gulf Coast Air Force Training Center.
