Air Force Historical Research Agency (AFHRA) World War II 100th Bombardment Group Collection
This collection includes twenty-four 100th Bombardment Group Histories from October 1942 through September 1945, one 13th Combat Wing History June 1943-December 1943, five 3d Air Division Histories June-October 1943, ninety-four 100 BG Mission Folders, and 175 Missing Aircrew Reports (MACR). Operational narratives for combat missions conducted by the group from June 1943 through October 1943, reside with the 13th Bomb Wing and 3d Bomb Division Histories. Operational narratives for missions conducted November 1943 through April 1945, reside with the 100th Bomb Group histories. Included in the 13 Bomb Wing and 3d Air Division histories are operational narratives, combat instructions, and combat critiques for groups assigned to them. Included in the 100th Bombardment Group histories are combat operation summaries, maps, squadron diaries, statistical summaries, crew lists, list of battle casualties, award citations, and special orders (some histories include photos). There are separate mission folders compiled by the 100 BG operations officers for specific combat missions conducted from 3 March through 12 July 1944; these files consist of premission briefs, combat reports, interrogation forms, field orders, maps, and photos. The MACRs account for missing aircraft and aircrews. These reports had to be submitted to Headquarters Army Air Force within two days after an aircraft and crew failed to return from a combat mission. The files include the date, time, and location the aircraft was last seen, the aircraft serial number, assigned unit, and name, rank, and position of each crew member. The documents in this collection are listed first by Iris Number, then by Call Number, then date.
