"Space Starts Here"
Space Systems Command unveils “Space Starts Here,” first-ever official artwork. The work, by painter Rick Herter, was presented in August 2024 at Space Systems Command, headquartered on Los Angeles Air Force Base in southern California. The painting portrays a family watching a satellite launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base, on California’s Central Coast. “Space Starts Here,” by Rick Herter, Space Systems Command’s first official painting, includes a quote from American rocket pioneer Dr. Robert H. Goddard: “It is difficult to say what is impossible, because the dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow.”
