Air Force Historical Research Agency Welcome to the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Legacy Vault

DAF Legacy Vault

We are excited to announce the development of a new digital space dedicated to showcasing the Department of the Air Force's (DAF) official archival records. This project highlights the rich and storied history of both the Air Force and Space Force, featuring historical records, artifacts, photographs, audio recordings, video documentation, and archival finding aids.

Although the page is currently under construction, our team is actively working to ensure it becomes a comprehensive and accessible resource for historians, researchers, veterans, and enthusiasts. We aim to make these valuable materials readily discoverable for those seeking insights into the DAF's contributions to our nation's history.

This initiative underscores our commitment to preserving and sharing the official ephemera of the Airmen and Guardians who have shaped the legacy of the skies and beyond. Updates will follow as the project progresses, and we look forward to unveiling more resources soon!

History of the Air Corps Tactical School 1920-1940
This document is a comprehensive historical study documenting the evolution of a premier military educational institution from the early years of post–World War I through 1940. It meticulously details the development and revisions of the curriculum, including specialized courses in attack aviation, bombardment, pursuit, observation, and related subjects outlined in Training Regulations 440-15, while describing critical administrative changes and the formation of key committees. The text records the internal workings of the Air Corps Board and Air Service Board, outlines significant shifts such as the introduction of short courses in 1939 and the eventual suspension of the regular nine-month course, and provides extensive appendices that include detailed faculty and staff rosters alongside a complete list of graduates by class with their ranks and branches. This study also examines the integration of doctrinal innovations into operational tactics, the coordination with infantry and other branches, and the institution's pivotal role in shaping strategic air power concepts prior to World War II.
