Lineage.  Constituted as 86 Air Police Squadron, Fighter, Single Engine, and activated, on 1 Jul 1948.  Redesignated as 86 Air Police Squadron on 20 Jan 1950.  Inactivated on 11 May 1953.  Activated on 1 Nov 1969.  Redesignated as 86 Security Police Squadron on 14 Nov 1969.  Inactivated on 15 Oct 1985.  Activated on 1 May 1991.  Redesignated as 86 Security Forces Squadron on 1 Jul 1997.  Inactivated on 15 Jan 2004.  Activated on 16 Jul 2009.
