Lineage. Organized as 6 Aero Squadron on 13 Mar 1917.  Redesignated as: 6 Observation Squadron on 14 Mar 1921; 6 Pursuit Squadron on 30 Aug 1921; 6 Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor) on 6 Dec 1939; 6 Fighter Squadron on 15 May 1942; 6 Night Fighter Squadron on 9 Jan 1943.  Inactivated on 20 Feb 1947.  Redesignated as 6 Weapons Squadron on 12 Jun 2017.  Activated on 20 Jun 2017.
