Born in Bethpage, NY. BS, Alabama Polytechnic Institute, 1937. Air War College, 1953. Served to the grade of Sergeant, Field Artillery, Enlisted Reserve Corps, 1933- 1935; commissioned Field Lieutenant, Air Reserve, May 1935 and served to grade of First Lieutenant, August 1941. Served periods of active duty, including time with Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Douglas, UT, 1937-1939, recalled to active duty with Air Corps, August 1941. Career assignments include: various duties as company and field grade officer, 1941-1956; Deputy Director and later Director of Budget, Air Force Comptroller, HQ USAF, 1956-1961; Director of Aerospace Programs, DCS, Programs and Requirements, HQ USAF, 1963-1964; Assistant DCS, Programs and Requirements, HQ USAF, 1964-1965; DCS, Programs and Resources, HQ USAF, 1965-1967; Chief of Staff, United Nations Command and US Forces Korea, 1967-1969; Vice Commander, Air Force Logistics Command, 1969-1970. Retired 1 February 1970.
Personal and official papers relating to Friedman's Field Artillery and Air Force careers. Includes personal correspondence (1956-1969). Contains official correspondence including statements made by Friedman to the Summit Conference, 23 May 1960, concerning budget considerations for Exercise CHERRY TREE. Also contains statements made by Friedman to the US Senate, House of Representatives and House Armed Services Committee concerning the Air Force Budget Estimates for Fiscal Year 1962 (1961). Includes other speeches made by Fireman (1966-1968). Contains isolated news clippings (1965) and photographs (undated). Also contains comprehensive personnel records including orders, promotion records, education records, medical records, awards and letters of appreciation (1933-1957).
