Direct Reporting Units A direct reporting unit (DRU) has a specialized and restricted mission, and is directly subordinate to the Chief of Staff, United States Air Force or to his representative on the Air Staff. Below are the lineages of the currently active direct reporting units of the USAF. Air Force District of Washington Constituted as Air Force District of Washington, and activated as a direct reporting unit, on 1 Oct 1985. Inactivated on 15 Jul 1994. Activated as a direct reporting unit on 7 Jul 2005. See 11th Wing entry below. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Air Force Doctrine Center Constituted as the Air Force Doctrine Center, and activated as a field operating agency, on July 21, 1993. Redesignated Air Force Doctrine Center on February 24, 1997 and concurrently its status changed from a field operating agency to a direct reporting unit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center Established as the Air Force Test and Evaluation Center, and activated as a separate operating agency on January 1, 1974. Redesignated Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center on April 4, 1983. Effective February 5, 1991, the status of this organization changed from a separate operating agency to a direct reporting unit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Air Force Studies and Analyses Agency Established as the Air Force Center for Studies and Analyses, and activated as a direct reporting unit, on September 30, 1984. Effective February 5, 1991, status changed from a direct reporting unit to a field operating agency. Redesignated Air Force Studies and Analyses Agency on August 1, 1991. Status changed from a field operating agency to a direct reporting unit on 11 Apr 2001. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11th Wing This organization was designated as a direct reporting unit on June 2, 1994 and activated on 15 Jul 1994. It was relieved of direct reporting unit status on 7 Jul 2005 and assigned to the Air Force District of Washington. Status of this organization changed from separate operating agency to a direct reporting unit effective September 1, 1978.
