(1968-1969) Oral history interview with Lt. Colonel Herschel Liechty, combat control officer assigned to Combat Operations Center, Director of Operations. Discusses Combat Operations Center organizational setup, his personal duties and the unit mission, and also primary duties of the center which included: monitor Igloo White sensor drops, monitor weather's effect on strike missions and directing air traffic to support ground units. Also discussed are difficulties with setting up Combat Operations Center and uncertainty whether center would actually assume control of air traffic; methods of controlling air traffic; closer association with airborne battlefield command control center would have made mission more effective; effectiveness of communication between center and air traffic and finally additional problems faced.
