Lineage. Constituted as 8 Observation Squadron (Special) on 28 Jan 1942. Activated on 3 Feb 1942. Redesignated as 14 Tow Target Squadron on 14 Nov 1942. Disbanded on 10 Apr 1944. Reconstituted on 26 Sep 1944. Activated on 6 Oct 1944. Inactivated on 1 Feb 1946. Consolidated (19 Sep 1985) with the 914 Air Refueling Squadron which was constituted, and activated, on 17 May 1961. Organized on 1 Oct 1961. Discontinued, and inactivated, on 23 Oct 1964. Redesignated as 914 Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron, and converted to provisional status, on 27 Mar 2003.
